Provenance according to museum / collection
The picture had been given to the Dorotheum by the Vugesta in order to be auctioned (Nr. 836/5). The Institute for the Preservation of Monuments had it withdrawn from the auction, along with a few other paintings by Romako. The New Gallery acquired it in 1942 and made the payment for it directly to the Vugesta.
